Obituary for Grace Garrity

GARRITY, GRACE, a life-long resident of Petersburg, was born on April 22, 1932. Her parents were Isaac and Eliza Butler. She is a graduate of Ocean City High School. She was called home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2022. She slipped away in her sleep.
Grace Married Tom Garrity on June 16, 1956. She was a woman of strong faith. She remained active in church work throughout her life. Grace was a talented musician. Throughout the years she served as the organist for several area Methodist churches, including Seaville, Tuckahoe, Wesley-Petersburg, and Head of the River. She often played solos, and accompanied vocalists and choirs in various churches.
Grace was employed by Bell Telephone and later as head bookkeeper for the Tuckahoe National Bank.
Grace was a member of the Tuckahoe Merchants Association and the Township Historical Society. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Petersburg.
Grace enjoyed playing the organ and piano, working in her flower and shrub gardens, and doing genealogical research for many local families. She is remembered by many for her strong faith, musical ability, sense of humor, remarkable memory, knowledge of area history and generous spirit.
Grace is survived by Tom, her beloved husband, and also her nephew Mark Caldwell, and nieces Barbara Butler and Deborah Stahl.
The Celebration of Grace’s life will be on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Wesley-Petersburg United Methodist Church, located at 400 Route 610 in Petersburg. There will be a visitation time at 10:00 AM, a service at 11:00 AM, with the interment to follow in the Wesley – Petersburg Church Cemetery.
