Obituary for Emma Carver (Ferraro)

Our Mom, Emma Anna Ferraro Carver, died of COVID complications on January 25, 2021. She was born on June 17, 1927 in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was one of twelve children. She married a sailor that our Uncle Frank brought home to meet the family, our Dad, Charles Carver on June 5, 1948.

Mom loved to tell stories of her growing up in an Italian neighborhood. She was, for many years, the entire family’s ‘go-to’ person to ask questions about our very large family! She always had the answers. She loved her family and her family loved her very much. When our Dad retired, they both enjoyed their almost weekly trips to Atlantic City, babysitting their grandchildren and cooking Sunday dinners for the whole family to enjoy. She had a smile that lit up a room, laughter that could be heard across a football field and a certain way of making everyone near her feel loved.

For the last several years, Mom resided at Crest Haven Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. She made many friends there and was truly loved and cared for by many special employees, who have now become part of our family. Before COVID struck in March 2020, Mom was always in the front row at 2:00 pm in the activity room for the entertainment! How she would sing, dance and clap for those entertainers! It brought tears to our eyes. And, of course, the entertainers loved it too!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Carver, her parents and eleven siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Anne McElhone and her spouse, Harry Dale of Tuckahoe, New Jersey; her daughter Susan Fordham of Mays Landing, New Jersey and her son, Charles T. Carver II of Greene, New York. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Melissa Carver, Dale Ian McElhone, Marisa Bierman and Teresa Carver and by her great grandchildren, Dessa Carver, Triton Wendekier, Lulu Bailey Johnson and Josie Carver.
