Obituary for Helen "Laverne" Dwyer

Helen Laverne Dwyer – 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Corbin City, NJ on July 29, 2016. Born in Mt. Zion, IL, she moved as a child to Philadelphia where she graduated from Frankford High School. After graduating from high school, Laverne, as she was known to her family and friends, lived for several years in the Philadelphia area with her first husband, the late Frank Desmit, with whom she was blessed with her first child. Widowed at an early age, she was introduced by friends to her second husband, the late Edward Dwyer, with whom she was blessed with another daughter and a son. Laverne and Edward raised their three children in Mt. Holly, where they resided for over 40 years. Laverne was well known for her beautiful needlework, quilting and remarkable green thumb. She had a wonderful appreciation for birds, flowers and all of God’s creations. She deeply loved her family; they were her life. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Holly and more recently the Presbyterian Church of Mays Landing. Laverne is also joined in heaven by her brother, Robert Groff, who was a long-time resident of Kinston, NC and her father, Richard Groff of Ben Salem, PA. Left to share memories are her three children, Deborah Moran of Brick, NJ, Kathleen Fisher of Bradenton, FL, and Thomas Dwyer of Corbin City, NJ, as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Mays Landing, NJ on Wednesday, August 3rd at 1:00 PM. Memories and condolences can be shared at www.LangleyLovelandFuneralHome.com.
