Obituary for John Lorenzo

John Lorenzo, 92, of Petersburg, NJ passed away peacefully on October 1, 2015, with his family by his side.

John was born and raised in Belleplain, NJ. After leaving school he began working on the railroad with his father, uncles and brothers. He then served as a Sgt. for the United States Army 840th Air Engineers Squad during World War II. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked for the Cape May County Road Department before beginning his job a Plumber Steamfitter at the Woodbine Developmental Center where he would go on to retire from. John then worked summers on the Garden State Parkway.

John was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Petersburg. He was instrumental in starting the Upper Township Rescue Squad. He was a lifetime member of the Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company and a former Commander of the Belleplain VFW where he was active for many years, and even helped dig the foundation for the building. John was also active in Upper Township politics where he served as Township Committeeman and was also appointed Deputy Mayor of the Township.

John loved gardening, puzzles, coloring and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, love for his family, and never ending patriotism for his country.

John was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruth V. Lorenzo. He is survived by his sons, Gordon Lorenzo of Petersburg, Paul Lorenzo (Sally) of Ft. Laurderdale, FL, and Chic Cossaboone (Jean) of Petersburg. Six Grandchildren, Kimberly Cossaboone McCardell, Shelli Cossaboone Jackson, and Chic Cossaboone, Jr., all of Upper Township, Jeanne Lorenzo of Tamarac, FL, Jenny Lorenzo of Sunrise, FL, and Ryan Lorenzo of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Besides his six Grandchildren, John was also blessed with 15 Great Grandchildren: Alex, Cassie, Johnny, Sammy and Nick McCardell, James, Stephanie and Joshua Jackson, Ashley Chattin, Jessica, Katy and Charley Cossaboone, Violet and Celia Brown, and Nicolette Ricci.

A celebration of his life will be held at Langley-Loveland Funeral Home, 2315 Route 50, Tuckahoe, NJ on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 where friends may call from 12 - 1 pm and services will be held at 1:00 pm. Internment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Department or the Upper Township Rescue Squad.
