Obituary for Alice Carnrite Teal (Carnrite)

Alice Carnrite Teal (Carnrite)
Alice Carnrite Teal, 88 of Ocean City, was born in Sandy Creek, New York, on Flag Day June 14, 1927, and passed away at The Shores at Wesley Manor in Ocean City on March 4, 2016 at the age of 88. She moved from Sandy Creek to Marmora, Upper Township, New Jersey in 1975 and settles in a new house designed by her husband on Teal family property. She was well known in the area having served for 17 years as the Public Relations Officer for Upper Township. This included information about the township, local school activities and various organizations with public events. She was a free lance writer for a number of local newspapers. Many people will remember her taking pictures at Boy Scout and school events and many will also remember her when she wore her Mayflower Pilgrim costume in the classroom and local supermarket at the time of our celebration of Thanksgiving.
Alice was a descendant of the Pilgrim John Howland. She served as Colony Governor of the local Jersey Cape Colony of the New Jersey State Society of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. She also served as Governor of the New Jersey State Society and was a member of the General Society Board of Assistants. She is best known in all of the states of this country, Canada and many other countries as the Editor of the 10 page magazine "The Mayflower Quarterly" which she produced four times a year for 30,000 readers from 1993 through 2015 with local resident Harry P Folger 3rd as her Assistant Editor. Her magazine can be found in some of our local libraries. She was pleased to do this work since her father Claude Carnrite was a printer in Sandy Creek, New York, for the Holstein Friesian World magazine at which Alice also worked in the office. Over 50 years ago Alice joined the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was very proud to be a member of the New York State Officers Club and for over 30 years served as the Editor of the (DAR) Empire State News, a periodical magazine and Year Book. She is a member of the Cape May Patriots Chapter and the General Lafayette Chapter, both local chapters of the New Jersey Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Alice Teal was a member of the Board of Trustees of Cold Spring Village in Lower Township, Cape May County and the Board of Trustees of the Naval Air Station Wildwood at the Cape May airport. She was please to work with the founders Dr. Joseph and Anne Salvatore and the other trustees. She was also pleased to be one of the early members of the Historical Preservation Society of Upper Township New Jersey. Alice Teal has received many awards for her activities and will be missed by many.
A funeral service will be held 11am Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Langley Loveland Funeral Home, 2315 Route 50, Tuckahoe, NJ; a viewing will be prior to service from 10am-11am, and burial to follow time of service at Head of the River Cemetery, Estell Manor, NJ. Donations may be made to Head of the River Church, PO Box 337, Tuckahoe, NJ 08250. Friends and family may share memories and condolences at www.LangleyLovelandFuneralHome.com
