Edward (Ed) W. Weldon Jr., 95, of Ocean City, NJ, died June 23, 2015, just 5 weeks after his beloved wife of 72 years, Marie, passed away. Ed was born on December 8, 1919, to parents Edward and Lillian Weldon and raised in Chews Landing, NJ. He graduated from Haddon Heights High School.
Ed enlisted in the Army Air Force and became a Captain and pilot of a B-17 bomber. As part of the 390th Bombardment Group stationed in England during World War II, he flew numerous bombing missions over enemy territory in France and Germany. Ed’s B-17 was eventually shot down over Germany, and he spent a year and a half in prison camp. For his service he received an Air Medal with 3 clusters; the POW Medal; the World War II Medal; the European Middle East African Campaign Medal; the NJ Distinguished Service Medal; the Purple Heart and was named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the French government.
Ed and Marie owned and operated Weldon’s Hardware store in West Collingswood, NJ, for over 40 years. They retired to Buena, NJ, and later moved to the Shores at Wesley Manor in Ocean City, NJ. Ed enjoyed singing, dancing, golf, and tennis.
Survivors include brother, James Weldon of New Britain, PA; daughter, Jay-Louise Weldon (Michael Wynne) of Montclair, NJ; son, Edward W. Weldon III of Bowling Green, KY; grandsons, Brian E. Wynne (Virginia Jeffries) of Bronx, NY, and David J. Wynne (Danny Krueger) of Brooklyn, NY; and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. He is also is survived by his Japanese daughter, Kazuko (Kiyoshige) Kawamata (Naoyuki) of Tokyo, Japan, and the extended Kiyoshige family.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, and by his siblings, Lillian, Mary, Margaret, Frederick, and two sisters, Anna and Edna who died in childhood.

A memorial service will be held Sunday July 19 at 1pm at the Shores at Wesley Manor, 2201 Bay Ave, Ocean City, NJ.
